73 2 0 1 9 - 2 0 2 0 BANNER SCHOOLS Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® (UCS) programs across the state have the opportunity to apply for and earn "Banner School" status at the national and state level. A Banner School is recognized for its outstanding inclusive programming across all three components of the initiative: Unified Sports, Youth Leadership and Whole School Engagement. George Welch Elementary School, Postlethwait Middle School, and Cape Henlopen High School achieved National Banner School Status during 2019-20. Special Olympics Delaware also awarded UCS State Banners to nine schools in 2019-20. The schools listed below have distinguished themselves as exemplary in creating a sustainable inclusive school climate through Special Olympics' Unified Champion Schools program. Cooke Elementary, Fifer Middle School, Milford Central Academy, Milford High School, Milton Elementary, Mispillion Elementary, Old State Elementary, Smyrna High School, and Stokes Elementary The 2019-20 Banner schools listed above joined McKean High School, Middletown High School, Banneker Elementary School, Olive B. Loss Elementary School, West Seaford Elementary School, Major George S. Welch Elementary School, Dover High School, F.N. Postlethwait Middle School, Cape Henlopen High School and P.S. DuPont Middle School who were awarded Unified Champion Schools State Banner status in previous years. These schools maintain their "State Banner" status for four years, provided they continue to offer and enhance the quality programming that earned them the State Banner. Unified Sports, Youth Leadership and Whole School Engagement are the three core components of the Unified Champion Schools program.
