67 2 0 1 9 - 2 0 2 0 ROLLER SKATING Roller Skating athletes race against each other in this fast-paced sport with events offered for beginner and advanced skaters. Worldwide, more than 57,000 athletes compete. Here in Delaware, training takes place during the spring held at the Dover and Christiana Skating Centers with competition held in May. Unfortunately, practice and competitions for this sport were canceled to ensure the safety of all athletes, volunteers, friends and family due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual competition features the following events: 30-meter Slalom, 30-meter Straight, 100-meter, 300- meter, 500-meter and relays. The competition was named the "Winnie Spence Memorial Roller Skating Competition" in honor of the late William (Winnie) Spence, long-time friend and supporter of Special Olympics Delaware. Our thanks to the Dover Roller Skating Center for being a host site.
