WORLD WHISK(E)Y SPRING/SUMMER 2014 • 31 han Auchentoshan Single Malt 12 Year he Auchentoshan brand of Scotch Whisky is the epitome of the lowland style of this legendary, 191-year-old institution. The Auchentoshan Single Malt 12 Year-Old Whisky (80 proof), like all Auchentoshan products, is triple distilled, removing all the impurities from every drop. It is Scotch at its smoothest – a most delicate and exquisitely refined spirit of world-class renown. The gentleness and complexity are harmonized in the Auchentoshan Single Malt 12 Year with an appearance in the glass of golden honey, which is enhanced by a beguiling nose of crème brulee and distinct nuttiness – espe- cially of toasted almonds. On the palate, the 12 Year emerges both creamy and citrusy, with hints of both lime and tangerine. These transi- tion into a gradual cascade of nutmeg and ginger. This experience on the palate is then circled back most enticingly to the toasted nut character first detected on the nose. Mix a fantastic cocktail on the rocks with 1½ oz. Auchentoshan 12 Year, along with ginger ale and two orange wedges. The orange com- plements the unmistakable citrus character in this fine, delicate whisky, while the ginger ale brings out the creamy, nutty aspects – creating a drink both satisfying and uniquely refreshing. T Glen Garioch, Founder's Reserve. On the nose: warm amber in appearance, sweet vanilla and subtle spice com- bine with fruitier green apple and grapefruits on the nose. On the palate: butter cream and vanilla pave the way to fruity green apple skin and citrus cleanliness, leading to an elegant and subtle finish. Iain McCallum, Master of Malts for Morrison Bowmore Distillers.
