2021 SCL AWARDS I 17 RAPHAEL SAADIQ – LOVECRAFT COUNTRY Raphael Saadiq is a Grammy-winning musician, songwriter, and go-to collaborator/producer for some of the biggest names in R&B. Solange Knowles, John Legend, Mary J. Blige, D'Angelo, Ne-Yo, and Miguel are among the many artists who turn to Saadiq for his deep musicality, contemporary creative vision, and encyclopedic knowledge of timeless pop music. Saadiq honed his craft as a producer by working with Snoop Dogg, Little Dragon, Erykah Badu, and Stevie Wonder. He has played bass or guitar for superstars like Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Mick Jagger, and Lady Gaga, and his compositions have been covered, sampled, or referenced by everyone from Ed Sheeran to Drake. In 2012, Saadiq was listed as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People, and in 2017, he received an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category for co-writing "Mighty River" with Mary J. Blige for Mudbound. Saadiq is the composer-in-residence for the HBO show Insecure. His latest solo album, Jimmy Lee, was released in August 2019. MARTIN PHIPPS – THE CROWN Since scoring his first TV drama, Eureka Street, in 2002, Martin Phipps has won two BAFTA Awards, as well as five Ivor Novello Awards, and he has been nominated for five Primetime Emmys. Martin has composed music for many acclaimed television series, including the A&E miniseries War & Peace, Hugo Blick's The Honourable Woman, Peaky Blinders, two episodes of Black Mirror, as well as Season 3 of the Netflix Original Series The Crown. His film credits include Woman in Gold (co-scored with Hans Zimmer), Fox Searchlight's The Aftermath, Harry Brown, and Brighton Rock. Phipps also established Mearl—a project to facilitate collaboration between other artists and composers, as well as a platform for developing his own materials. Peaky Blinders was the first soundtrack written under this name, scored with a band of musicians from Radiohead's Laundry Studios in London Fields. LUDWIG GÖRANSSON – STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN In a career spanning only 12 years, Ludwig Göransson has amassed an impressive résumé in both the recording and motion picture industries, earning an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, multiple Grammy Awards, and countless other nominations. After assisting Theodore Shapiro, Göransson got his first break scoring the NBC television series Community. This led to a collaboration with Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, on several studio albums, including Because the Internet and Awaken, My Love! While pursuing his master's degree in film scoring at USC, Göransson met his other longtime collaborator, director Ryan Coogler. Göransson has since scored all of Coogler's features: Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther. Most recently, Göransson completed the score for Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm's first Star Wars live-action series, helmed by director Jon Favreau, streaming exclusively on Disney+. Göransson also composed the music for Christopher Nolan's Tenet, and he co-wrote and co-produced the songs for DreamWorks' Trolls World Tour with Justin Timberlake. A TELEVISION PRODUCTION
