2021 SCL AWARDS I 9 STEVEN PRICE – DAVID ATTENBOROUGH: A LIFE ON OUR PLANET Steven Price is an Academy Award-winning composer. In 2014, his groundbreaking score for Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity garnered wins in the Best Original Score category for the Academy Awards, BAFTAs, Critics' Choice Awards, and ASCAP's first-ever Film Composer of the Year Award. Other prominent projects include Edgar Wright's Baby Driver (2017) and The World's End (2013), Tom Harper's The Aeronauts (2019), Warner Bros.' blockbuster hit Suicide Squad (2016), and the World War II epic Fury (2014). Television credits include NBC's Believe (2014), the BBC's The Hunt (2015), a landmark natural history documentary series for which Price won his second BAFTA Award, and Our Planet (Netflix), which earned two Emmy score nominations for the composer in 2019. Projects in 2020/2021 for Price include the recently released David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet (Netflix), Glen Keane's animation Over the Moon (Netflix), Gavin Rothery's Archive, and Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho (Focus Features). TAMAR-KALI BROWN – SHIRLEY Brooklyn-born-and-bred artist Tamar-kali is a second-generation musician with roots in the coastal Sea Islands of South Carolina. As a composer, Tamar-kali has defied boundaries to craft her own unique alternative sound. Her score for Dee Rees' Oscar-nominated Mudbound garnered her the World Soundtrack Academy's 2018 Discovery of the Year Award. IndieWire recognized it as one of the 25 Best Film Scores of the 21st Century. In addition to debuting her first symphonic commission in 2019, she scored four films, including the documentary John Lewis: Good Trouble. The other three films were featured at the Sundance Film Festival 2020: The Last Thing He Wanted, The Assistant, and Shirley. The soundtrack to Shirley was named The Guardian's Contemporary Album of the Month in June 2020. 2021 promises a range of projects for Tamar- kali, from opera commissions and a solo EP to the original motion picture score for Palmer.
