GABRIELE PAZZAGLIA Cellarmaster, Castello Banfi Montalcino native Gabriele Pazzaglia, armed with a degree in winemaking special- izing in viticulture, started at Banfi as a technical cellar assistant in 1999. He also served as an analyst while continuing his studies at the University of Florence specializing in agriculture, including time at the French Institute for Enological Research in Montpellier. Upon completing his doctorate in Enology in 2004, he became assistant and shortly thereafter, Cellar Master. His priority is on the choice of oak, overseeing estate seasoning of the wood staves, and crafting of the winery's custom barrels. Pazzaglia also manages Banfi's Horizon vinification winery, and winemaking for ASKA. ENRICO CERULLI, Family Proprietor, Cerulli Spinozzi, Teramo, Italy With his family roots in Abruzzi dating back generations, Professor Cerulli's passion lies in focusing on super-quality wines from the Colline Teramane subregion, Abruzzi's only DOCG. In particular, Enrico strives to make exceptional wine from the Montepulciano grape, using 100% DOCG fruit. ALBERTO LAZZARINO, Directing Winemaker, Banfi Piemonte, Strevi, Italy Professor Lazzarino has been the princi- pal winemaker at Banfi Piemonte since 2002 and is a graduate of the prestigious Agricultural University of Alba, one of Italy's, and the world's, leading enological schools. GIUSEPPE RONCOLETTA Cellar Ambassador, Fontana Candida As Cellar Ambassador for Fontana Candida, Roncoletta flanks the driving force of wine- maker Mauro Merz in his movement to return to the high-quality, small-production wines of Frascati's past. The mission is twofold: reviving the wines of Frascati and updating the image of the Frascati region. Terre dei Grifi and Luna Mater Frascati Superiore demonstrate a unique sense of place and complexity that pairs so well to the zesty cuisine of Rome. Roncoletta also leads trade trainings, themed consumer dinners, and in-depth seminars with the Association of Italian Sommeliers. ANDREA SARTORI, Family Proprietor, Sartori di Verona, Negrar, Italy Professor Sartori is the great grandson of Pietro Sartori, founder of Sartori di Verona, now one of the Veneto's leading wine producers. The former president of Italy's producer trade group, the Unione Italinia Vini, Sartori will bring generations of family experience to his insider look at Amarone in the An Amore for Amarone seminar. CHRISTIAN ZULIAN, Director, Bolla Professor Zulian attended the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all'Adige and the University of Padova, where he received his M.Sc. in Viticulture and Oenology sciences. Zulian has serves as a Technician for Rocca di Frassinello (Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite)) and held several positions wtih Marchesi Antinori, including Head of all Italian Estates and Head of Research and Development. Zulian is the author of various viti- cultural and oenological scientific papers and popular publica- tions, which have appeared both internationally and nationally. MAURIZO BROGGI, Creator, Italian Wine Scholar Program, Wine Scholar Guild Originally a sommelier and wine consultant for various cosorzi in Italy, Professor Broggi also spent a number of years in China as a wine ambassador in Hong Kong. During this time, he earned the Diploma in Wine and Spirits (with Merit) from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust. He was also awarded the Decanter Scholarship for top Advanced Level graduate in Asia. His other wine credentials include the French Wine Scholar with Highest Honors, Certified Specialist of Wine from the Society of Wine Educators and Certified Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers. LARS LEICHT, National Director, Cru Artisan Wines, Banfi The current be-all and end-all Banfi resource, Lars Leicht serves as Founder and Dean of the Cru Artisan College, and most importantly, translator. Dean Leicht's background in political science and journalism eventually led him to become Director of Communications for Banfi Vintners, starting as a sales representative for Banfi in New York over 30 years ago. Leicht is not only an expert on Banfi and Italian wine and food but wine industry market trends in general. ROBERTO MAGNISI Quality Control Director, Florio As a Chemistry graduate of the University of Messina, his master's thesis, "Study of the Polyphenolic Components of Sicilian Wine Through High Performance Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (HPLC/MS)" combined his two passions: wine and chemistry. In 2003 he began his career in wine with the historic Florio Marsala winery, and since then the team there has become his second family. In 2009 he was appointed Director of Research and Development for the Duca di Salaparuta Group (which encompases Florio, Corvo and Duca di Salaparuta). At Florio, Magnisi has been entrusted to establish a state of the art microbiological-chemical laboratory to support the winemak- ing team's professional know-how. Meet the Faculty
