As union members, it's up to us to guide and steer the work of our union, whether at the local, state or national level. When AEA decides to start a new program, endorse a ballot initiative, or get behind a political candidate, it's because union educators made that decision. As a rank-and- le union member, you have the right to vote on the o cer team for your local union, as well as delegates to AEA's Delegate Assembly and NEA's Representative Assembly. You also have the right to run for union leadership positions yourself. is special edition of the AEA Advocate will help you learn more about fellow members of AEA who have chosen to run for leadership roles within our union. You'll also learn more about the voting process and how decisions are made. As educators, we are our union, and governance is part of that. So vote, get involved, and consider running for union leadership yourself. We need your input and your voice! In solidarity,
