ASSOCIATION GOVERNANCE 14 ADVOCATE | SPRING 2024 in the classroom. Our union fiercely advocates for improved working conditions, increased compensation, and quality education for all our students. As an active member of AEA, I know that strong public schools are essential in building strong communities. I aim to help empower teachers and strengthen our collective voice, so teaching can be a safe and sustainable career. Collecting individual experiences and local needs is what helps to create change at the state level, especially when those with louder voices are oen misrepresenting our experi - ence. Past roles that sparked my journey with AEA include serving as a site representative and partici- pating in Professional Negotiations and Insurance Committees in the Madison District. Since then, I have moved to Glendale Union High School District. Being a part of a "wall-to-wall" association further expanded my awareness of what it takes to create and maintain quality schools. It truly does take a village. Our local meetings are oen attended by members from many areas of campus, including maintenance and custodial crews, and our empathy for and understanding of each other is enriched because of it. A strong union is one that serves as a platform for open dialogue, where the diverse voices of educators and support staff are heard and valued. I enjoy being a part of that essential dialogue on my campus and in my district. Non-education positions held: Safe talk suicide prevention trainer, youth mental health first aid trainer. I'm excited to further support AEA as a potential alternate director for Region 6. While I have not been in the union for a long time, as soon as I joined, started working on the Meet & Confer work team and the following year was on the Meet & Confer Table Team. I have been an active recruiter of new members, especially aer receiving training at Summer Institute. I also actively sought out advocacy training so I can better support my members in my local. I have been a site representative since joining the union to advocate for my colleagues. We need to be truly inclusive if we want to grow and represent our members. I hope to help move AEA further towards a place where difficult conver - sations are had and opposite viewpoints are not only welcomed, but sought out as a check and balance. Focusing on supporting ALL members, especially in getting classified staff members a living wage is vital. As the granddaughter of a school lunch lady, I know whose shoulders I stand upon. If you are fine with the status quo of current AEA, you are welcome to vote for another candidate. If you want someone who will go the extra mile and do the legwork to move our collective vision forward while possess - ing the backbone to hold firm when something is unethical or not in the best interest of the collective, I look forward to your vote. I'm not here for me. I'm here for you.
