INDUSTRY SPOTLIGHT Berri, Berri Good I t’s the debut of Absolut Berri Açai, the 11th fl avor to join the Absolut vodka portfolio. A blend of luscious, juicy açai, blueberry and pomegranate fl avors, it is made from all-natural ingredients and contains no sugar and no added preservatives. “Absolut offers one of the broadest and most diverse ranges of fl avors in the category, with fl avors representing more than 25% of the brand’s annual sales,” says Clare Kanter, Senior Brand Manager of Absolut. “While pomegranate and blueberry already hold spots at the top of the popular fl avor charts, açai—the berry of the Brazilian palm tree—is a fl avor newcomer that is turning up everywhere and is on the cusp of becoming mainstream.” From 2005 to 2007, the açaí fruit industry jumped from $3 million to $14 million, and sales of açai products more than tripled, to $66 million in the last year alone. SRP $20, 750 ml. Horseplay in Kentucky M aker’s Mark has been named the offi cial bourbon of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. The Games will make their American debut Sept. 25–Oct. 10, 2010, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. “Bourbon and horses are a natural pair—espe- cially in Kentucky, where their histories run deep. We’re looking forward to making our ‘mark’ on the games,” says Bill Samuels Jr., President and CEO of Maker’s Mark. (See our story on Bill Samuels on p. 42.) APPOINTMENTS Miron Sargent. Miron Sargent has been promoted to President Texas and Oklahoma for Glazer’s Distributors. Currently VP Spirits for Texas, Sargent started his career with Glazer’s in 1986 as a sales representative, and has successfully held various management roles for the company in Texas and Arizona, including General Manager, Mustang Spirits, and Branch Manager for Austin and San Antonio. The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are the world championships of eight equestrian disciplines recognized outside Europe, nor have all eight disciplines competed at a single site—both fi rsts that will be achieved at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The organization, founded in 2006, is an alliance of 84 winer- ies and 343 growers. Among his top priorities is bolstering Mendocino’s position as the nation’s “greenest wine region.” Batt brings to the MWWC a wide range of experience that encompasses both executive and entrepreneurial roles across the food, beverage, wine and marketing spectrum.
