C A S Q U A R T E R L Y I FA L L 2 0 2 3 53 After 30 years of teaching sound in higher education, David Bondelevitch CAS MPSE has retired as a full-time tenured associate professor at the University of Colorado Denver. David taught at UC Denver for 15 years, with 15 years prior at the University of Southern California. All options are open now! After some schedule delays (filled by teaching at Concordia University, Montreal, and POSTRED Academy in Tbilisi), Gavin Fernandes CAS spent June mixing the Punjabi film Dear Jassi for director Tarsem Singh. Next up is Caitlin Cronenberg's feature Humane, the feature doc The Bones, and then the IMAX release New England and the Sea of Stories with producer Daniel Ferguson. From Devendra Cleary CAS: "Chris 'Catfish' Walmer, Alexis Schafer, and I finished a feature in the spring for Apple Original Films under the code name 'Unicorn' which, when released, will be called Wolfs and was directed by Jon Watts. Thank you, Milton Cheng, for day-playing with us here in LA. And thank you, Adam Sanchez CAS, Paul Koronkiewicz, and Paul Wasserman for covering the New York unit and Shawn Holden CAS for also covering me recently! For the summer, we're off to Oklahoma on a feature for Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment called Twisters with Lee Isaac Chung directing. The team includes Patrick Martens on boom and plant mic duties, and Brian Gililland joining us as sound utility. Thanks to Isaac Sanders for jumping in with your additional utility support! Feeling lucky to be busy and have such wonderful teams!" While Peter F. Kurland CAS waits for his last project, Drive-Away Dolls, to come out in September, boom operator Randy Johnson will be joining the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, along with other mixers, boom operators, and mix techs. James Ridgley CAS shares: "Best to everyone. My main focus these days is post-production on two feature films I have written, directed, produced, and did sound recording and editing on: Siblings! (a dark comedy) and A Natural Disorder of Things (a coming-of-age story of a high schooler newly diagnosed on the autism spectrum). However, I have also had a production sound mixing job or two, including a wonderful short film with 80% Chinese-language dialogue. I will be starting production sound mixing on a feature film in July with one of my old dear friends, Mike Mesirow, booming for me!" Daniel Vasquez V. CAS finished mixing Transition, an acclaimed documentary that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, before continuing its journey to Sheffield DocFest and Sydney Film Festival. Blond Indian Films was in charge of the sound post-production, with Carlos Garcia and Miguel Villada leading as the sound supervisors.
