b y G . J o h n G a r r e t t C A S Konos 80 Element Microphone There's a new microphone built on digital signal processing technology that you may want to check out. New Zealand-based Dotterel Technologies introduced the digital Konos microphone this spring, and reports are impressive. The company was founded in 2017 and began with the idea of how to make drones more useful. They started with the idea of making mic arrays to eliminate the "flying lawnmower" noise from drone propellers in public service applications. They found additional uses in search-and-rescue operations, for better communication with victims and rescue personnel, and even in remote hostage negotiations. Then they expanded to using the tech in drones on film sets and the sound mixers (bright people that they are) began asking if they could take the array off the drone so they could try using it like a shotgun.
