4 FA L L 2 0 2 3 I C A S Q U A R T E R L Y While the challenges of negotiations continue to affect aspects of our industry, we hope you will take some time to enjoy the contributions of some of your colleagues in this issue of the CAS Quarterly. First off, as you can see by the cover, David Bondelevitch CAS MPSE took time to speak with some of the principals behind the revisiting and restoration of Star Trek: The Motion Picture—a film which the CAS held a screening of at the end of last year. Diving deep into the trenches of production sound (literally!), Viktor Prášil CAS AMPS shares his experience working on the Oscar-nominated, BAFTA-winning film All Quiet on the Western Front. Sticking with production sound, Steven A. Morrow CAS tells the tale of transitioning from one earwig to another—and, boy, does he use a lot of them—in his "My Favorite Sound Tool" piece. G. John Garrett CAS takes a look at the head (and ear) turning Konos 80 element microphone while Kurt Kassulke CAS ponders the role of AI (artificial intelligence) in audio post-production in his submission, "AI: Should We Be Professionally Afraid?" Finally, Karol Urban CAS MPSE gets the scoop on Netflix Spatial Audio during a sit down with Scott Kramer. Be sure to also check out the "Been There Done That" and "The Lighter Side" sections, where you can read about the happenings of our fellow members. Congratulations to all our recently Emmy-nominated members. It's always great to see the CAS initials, not only on the screen, but in lists of highly skilled craftspeople. Best of luck in September! The Quarterly is produced as a service to our members and relies on their voluntary nature. We greatly appreciate, and want, your feedback and suggestions—so send them in!
