He cious" y to ur vely 's my orld vision 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 Constitution of the Wyoming Education Association PREAMBLE April 2013 We, the members of the Wyoming Education Association, in order that the Association may serve as the state voice for education, do adopt these goals: promote significant legislative support for public education; promote and protect human and civil rights in education; promote the health and welfare of children and/or students; obtain for members the benefits of an independent, united education profession; promote professional excellence among educators; secure professional autonomy; advance the cause of education for all individuals; unite educational employees for effective citizenship; and promote economic and professional security for all educators. ARTICLE I: NAME Section 1 – Name The name of this Aassociation shall be the Wyoming Education Association, HEREAFTER KNOWN AS THE WEA OR THE ASSOCIATION. ARTICLE II: MISSION Section 1 – Mission The mission of the Wyoming Education Association WEA is to advance public education at all levels by: - creating equitable educational opportunity for all learners; - promoting the highest quality standards for the profession; and - expanding the rights and furthering the interests of educational personnel. 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 70 71 72 73 74 75 76 77 78 79 80 81 82 83 84 85 86 87 88 89 90 91 92 93 94 95 96 ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP Section 1 – Categories Membership in the Wyoming Education Association WEA shall comprise a category of active members and such other categories as may be provided in the Bylaws. Section 2 – Eligibility Membership as provided in the Bylaws shall be open to all persons actively engaged in the profession of teaching or in other educational work or to persons interested in advancing the cause of public education who shall agree to subscribe to the goals and objectives of the Association and to abide by its Constitution and Bylaws. Section 3 – Affiliation Active, Reserve, Retired and Student members of this Association THE WEA shall also be members of the National Education Association (NEA) and the appropriate local affiliate if local membership is open to them. No local affiliate of the Association shall enroll active members unless they also enroll as members of the Wyoming Education Association WEA and the National Education Association NEA. Section 4 – Termination of Membership An active member shall continue in good standing and shall enjoy all rights and privileges specified in the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association as long as the member shall continue to be engaged in professional education in the state of Wyoming, or until membership is terminated in writing by the member or under the provisions of the Bylaws. Section 5 – Membership Standards The Association shall not deny membership to individuals on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, gender, sexual orientation, age, handicap, marital status, or economic status; nor shall any organization which so denies membership be affiliated with the Wyoming Education Association WEA.
