Long-Time Wyoming Educator Receives Prestigious WEA Gold Key Award Kay Ann Saxton of Evanston was awarded the Wyoming Education Association's coveted Gold Key Award for her over 40 years of service to Wyoming education. "This award was given in appreciation of a lifetime of effort made by Kay Ann. She has made an impression on our schools that everyone can be proud of and strive for," said WEA President Kathy Vetter. The nomination by the Evanston Education Association said Kay Ann had devoted her life to teaching the youth of Evanston. She taught English in Evanston High School for over 45 years. Students benefited from her expertise and knowledge as she served as the president of the Wyoming High School Student Press Association. However, Kay Ann's service to Wyoming students did not stop when she retired, and she currently serves on the board of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. said Ty Ruby, Evanston EA Treasurer. Kay Ann is a shining example of the quality of Wyoming educators, and that is why she was selected as the WEA Gold Key Award recipient. The WEA Gold Key Award is the most prestigious recognition from the WEA. It is presented for extraordinary service which has contributed to the professional development of WEA and to enhancement and advancement of education in the state of Wyoming. Saxton has been involved with the WEA for over 20 years, served in numerous volunteer positions, and continues her participation with WEA-Retired. Even though she is now retired from teaching, she is still an active WEA and NEA member. "Kay Ann continues to be a strong advocate for the goals, mission, and vision of the WEA and NEA," said Evanston EA President Margaret MaGee. Advocating for Wyoming students and educators is something Kay Ann still believes in and supports.
