Search for Education Director is On The State Board of Education has been charged with recommending to the Governor three exemplary candidates for the position of Director of the Wyoming Department of Education. Governor Mead will then select the Director from those three finalists. Because most people in the field of education are under contract for 2013-14 by July 1, the search firm hired by the State Board to conduct the search, Ray and Associates, recommended "fast tracking" the selection process to enable hiring to be made prior to that date. As a result, both the search firm and the State Board have worked very hard over many, many hours to quickly get the process rolling and to seek stakeholder input on the desired traits of a Director. A significant number of stakeholders provided valuable information that was used to establish criteria for the position and may also be used when writing interview questions. The position was advertised nationally and it closed on May 15. A paper screening of the applications brought forward to the State Board will occur in executive session on May 29th, and a decision will be made as to who will be interviewed. Inperson interviews will occur in Cheyenne on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1. The interviews will consist of a significant amount of time with the Board alone and then some additional time with the public, with a form for members of the public to use to provide feedback and input to the Board. Because of the short turn-around between the paper screening and the inperson interviews, the schedule has not yet been determined; if you wish to attend the public candidate forums, please check the WDE Website (http://edu.wyoming.gov/) on May 30 or contact Kathy Scheurman at WEA (kscheurman@nea.org or 307-214-2506) for times and location. Following the interviews, if three qualified and high-quality candidates stand out, those names will then be submitted to the Governor for further action and eventual selection of a Director. If the Board does not find three people that it wants to recommend, the position will undoubtedly be re-opened for applications. 30 SUMMER 2013 Summer 2013.indd 30 VOLUNTEERS needed WEA has been asked to come back to the Military Family Camp this summer and put on the WEA Rodeo again for the military families attending the camp. This year's rodeo will be held the evening of Saturday, July 20, once again at Eatons' Ranch near Sheridan.
