Kathy McCurdy: I remember walking into the Knit-
ting Factory on Hollywood Boulevard and being amazed
at how packed it was! There was this air of excitement
and anticipation—we were really going to do this thing! A
bunch of people encouraged me to run for the Board, so
I did.
Jody Hummer: I remember standing at the podium
trying to express my passion for the Guild to become a
recognized force for our industry and our communities.
Diane Friedman: The vote for the Founding Board
was taken, and the Interim Board was retained, along
with others who had put themselves forward, including
myself.
2004
In Orin's Rec Room with
the Founding Board
Jody Hummer: Over our first year into 2004, we
held hearty dialog with opinions that we did not always
agree on, but with voices that were always committed to
each other.
Lisa Blok-Linson: Ideas were batted around about
the structure of the nonprofit, what the goals of the Guild
would be and how we could achieve them. Also, how we
would present this idea to build membership amongst
the location community and our vendors.
John Grant: I got sucked into this vortex, a swirling
mass of this thing that was happening. It was a worthy
cause and it made sense for us to do it. The only time we
got to hang out with each other was at union meetings,
the COLAs. This was another opportunity to co-exist,
compare notes, share stories, and advance our profile
outside our group and within our industry.

Peter Gluck: Beth Tate and Bruce Chudacoff pulled
me in, and I joined the first Board. I was a commercial
guy, we had just been accepted into the union in 2000—
which was about contracts and classes, and this was
another way to increase our visibility, help us gain
respect. It was nice to be part of a group of people that
did the same thing. I was also the graphics guy!
