LMGI COMPASS | Fall 2023 • 49 Guild Is Incorporated as a Nonprofit Interim Board is named: Bruce Chudacoff – CEO/President Orin Kennedy – Vice President Cassandra Heredia – Secretary Beth Tate – Incorporator/Assistant Secretary Richard McMillan – CFO/Treasurer John Grant Jody Hummer Lisa Blok-Linson Bob Craft 2004 In Orin's Rec Room with the Interim Board Orin Kennedy: I offered a meeting room at my condo—first for the Interim Board and then later for the Founding Board. We actually met there for several years. Beth Tate: I called the first meeting of the Interim Board at Orin's place in January. I wanted to work through the bylaws and other protocols before officially opening up the Guild to the community. I turned to the set decorators for help. They shared their bylaws and invaluable information on how to run as a nonprofit. Cassandra Heredia: Beth Tate called and said, 'I need to put together a Board, can you be the secretary?' Beth was so passionate, I was flattered. Everyone was passionate, engaged and dedicated. Thom Anable: Beth and I were friends. She asked me, 'Hey, this thing is starting, do you want to be involved?' She wanted to make sure that commercial people were included. I thought it was a great idea. She knew I was conversant in union contracts. I had 20 years in the DGA before joining the Teamsters. Beth Tate: The Interim Board laid the groundwork and dove into the minutia of setting up a nonprofit. We started recruiting people to join the Guild so they could vote in the first Board election, which would be held at our first General Membership Meeting in May. We voted to enlarge the Board to include up to 21 members. We invited Steve Dayan, Sheri Davis and supporters from local permit offices to that first big meeting. Orin and Jody spoke. NOVEMBER JANUARY TO APRIL Jody Hummer: Those of us who became founding members of the LMGA were connected by our dedication to the art and the science of our shared profession. Over the last months of 2003, Beth found a nonprofit lawyer and officially incorporated LMGA papers for the Location Managers Guild of America, A California Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation. By November of 2003, we were planning our first official guild meeting. The LMGA was real! 2004 January to April • Voting on bylaws, membership categories, wording of mission statement and insurance review • Website and protocols for new projects discussed • Plans made for first General Membership Meeting • Discussed vendors becoming business members • Maryland Film Office makes a donation • Mar Vista potluck for pre-LMGA General Membership Meeting get-together
