14 • LMGI COMPASS | Fall 2023 I had been to Smithers only once in the past to scout winter/alpine locations cheating the North Pole for the Christmas movie Noëlle. In recent years, I've had the need for similar high-alpine-looking locations and had to cobble together the same sort, but locally, in and around Vancouver. In every instance, the logistics were challenging and costly. by Ken Brooker/LMGI So, I was excited to return to Smithers to really dig into what Hudson Bay Mountain could offer. What I discovered was both the town and the Hudson Bay Mountain Resort were keen to host filming, and the alpine was infinitely more accessible than I'd originally thought. Moving sets, crews, cast and equipment to and from the elevation known as The Prairie is a snap.
