LMGI COMPASS | Fall 2023 • 9 the honorary organization behind the Emmy Awards. As one of two location manager representatives on their Producers Peer Group Executive Committee, I convinced the TV Academy to create its own Comic-Con International panel for the very first time. This culminated when I, acting as their first location manager panelist, took the stage with four Hollywood producers, the first time we'd shared this space with these colleagues. Led by celebrity moderator Ryan Arey (host of ScreenCrush on YouTube), the panelists were: Juan Alfonso (Emergence, El Diez), Seth Edelstein (For All Mankind, Better Call Saul), Erik Holmberg (Fargo, Lucifer), Sabrina Wind (Muppets Now, Desperate Housewives) and myself, Scott Trimble/ LMGI (Snowfall, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett). The discussion topics bounced around between the various challenges of producing current network television. Tony Carey, governor of the Producers PGEC, was in the live audience that morning in San Diego and later stated, "Informative, interesting and fun for producers and location managers alike, this panel was just one great example of the contributions already made by the recent inclusion of location managers into the Television Academy." After this year's two great panels, the plan now is to continue both with two new sets of panelists at Comic- Con International 2024. Meet the Nominees On August 13 and August 19, LMGI members JJ Levine, Miguel Tapia and LMGI Awards Co-chair Robin Citrin produced another round of the successful LMGI "Meet the Nominees" panels, once again moderated by Levine and Tapia. This year, there were so many participants that the panels were split into two sessions. The lively Q&A sessions featured the location professionals behind the 2023 LMGI Award-nominated features, television and commercials. Guild members Les Fincher, Lia Towers and LMGI administrator Erika Howard assisted the moderators in keeping the sessions running smoothly. On August 13, location managers from the nominated projects Argentina 1985, The Woman King, The Banshees of Inisherin, Perry Mason S2, Daisy Jones & the Six, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Jack Ryan S3, The Old Man, Succession S4, Westworld S4, The White Lotus S2 and The White House Plumbers fielded questions, shared stories and got to know each other in a panel that ran for more than two hours. On August 19, an equally robust panel consisted of location managers from A Spy Among Friends, All Quiet on the Western Front, 1923, Apple: The Greatest, The Fabelmans, Go RVing Canada: "You Are Out There," The Handmaid's Tale, John Wick: Chapter 4, The Last of Us, Peaky Blinders S6, Tar, Troll, Queen Charlotte, Guy Ritchie's' The Covenant and The Diplomat. Said Tapia, "The LMGI brought another group of talented, bar- raising and just overall inspiring group of location professionals to the forefront with this year's LMGI Awards. The nominee panel conversations were engaging, enlightening and an exemplary representation of why the LMGI Awards are so important. We had a formidable group of location professionals representing entries from Norway, Greece, Argentina, Spain, Japan, Germany, Canada, Italy, France, Ireland, Great Britain, United States and South Africa. It's LMGI events like this that bring together an international group of managers to share stories and find out that we have a lot more in common than the distance and cultures that separate us." A big thank you to LMGI Award Title sponsors the Polish Film Institute, NEOM and Studio Air + Power who supported this popular panel event.
