WJBR All-Star Teachers WJBR and DSEA honor final Teachers of the Month ust like the WDSD program, listeners to WJBR are encouraged to go to www.wjbr.com to nominate a favorite teacher. Winning teachers receive an engraved placque, a certificate for Panera Bread and, new this year, a brunch for all of them on June 15 at the Deerfield Country Club in Newark, courtesy of Deerfield. All-Star Teacher of the Month for March Appoquinimink's Joanne Walton was nominated by her fifth grade student, Alexis Druss. On hand to congratulate Walton was also Alexis' mother Sue, Principal Jeff Davis and Jeff Robinson of Deerfield Country Club in Newark. Here's what Alexis posted on wjbr.com: "Mrs. Walton is an awesome teacher! She taught me in 4th grade, and they needed a teacher this year to cover a class for 5th grade because there were so many students and not enough teachers. She took on the roll, plus the extra work, and now I have her for 5th grade as well. She is very organized and takes pride in her job. Brandywine's Elissa Menashes nominated by student's grandfather Elissa Menashes teaches second grade at Lancashire Elementary School in Brandywine. On hand to present her award for the month of April was WJBR's morning personality Charlie Maxx, two representatives from the Deerfield Country Club, and Tony Spadaccini, who nominated Menashes. "I have been legal guardian for Joseph, my grandson, since July 2007. He is a very special child who is extremely intelligent. However, he has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, a form of Autism. "Ms. Bilecki," writes Allen, "has her hands full with 24 kindergarteners, but manages to do an incredible job at keeping them all on track learning and following behavior rules. She uses a microphone, Smart Board, and other technologies well to keep the whole class engaged. I've been able to observe many times, and am impressed. The students get homework every night, and parents are updated on class progress via email multiple times per week. Our son has shown remarkable progress since the beginning of the school year, and we are happy to have Ms. Bilecki as his teacher." May/June 2013 DSEA ACTION! 7
