What's hot Full slate of DSEA officers now in place CREA's Scholarship Fundraiser has grown so large that it is held at Dover Downs. CREA thinks big with its Scholarship Fund Three hundred and ninetysix people attended at the Dover Downs. They purchased over 5,000 raffle tickets in hopes of winning one of over 120 raffle items donated by local businesses and individuals. And at the end of the evening, the Caesar Rodney Education Assoc. had raised over $4,800 to add to their scholarship fund. "W e gave out a free raffle ticket to all new members to encourage them to come and check it out," says Sherri Antonetti, one of the original creators of the Scholarship Fund 13 years ago with Cyndi Angermeier, now retired. "We also gave out individual e-vites to all the personnel in CR. Our superintendant attends every year, and school board members come, too." She hopes some legislators will come next year. Needless to say, they didn't start at the Dover Downs 13 years ago. Thanks to their growing success, the CREA Scholarship Committee is now awarding a $3,000 scholarship to a CR student who will be attending college in the field of education. New this year, they are awarding a $1,000 scholarship to the son or daughter of a CREA member currently attending undergraduate college in any field. Called the Sessler Scholarship, it honors Gillian Sessler, a special education teacher at Star Hill Elementary School and last year's social/scholarship fundraiser chair. That year they raised over $5,000 which allowed them to begin this second scholarship. They started very small, Antonetti remembers, but tried to improve their fundraising ability each year. "We are all very excited. It always amazes me how it just keeps changing and growing." Delaware Press Assoc. honors DSEA work SEA recently took home two first place and two second place awards in the annual Communications Contest sponsored by the Delaware Press Assoc. Honored with second place recognition were the radio spots featuring members Annie Neubauer of Appoquinimink and Jill Lewandowski of Woodbridge about what DSEA stands for and why they are proud to be members; and, in D www.dsea.org the Writing category, the "Making a Difference" features on the back page of ACTION! Dom Zaffora, a middle school English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Phillis Wheatley M.S. in Woodbridge, was appointed as DSEA's Zaffora new treasurer by the Executive Board at their May meeting to replace Karen Crouse. His term expires July 15, 2015. Karen Crouse was appointed vice president the month before to replace Mike Hoffmann. She is the former president of Lake Forest E.A. (a unified Crouse local), is the financial secretary at Lake Forest High School, and had been the DSEA treasurer. Her vice presidential term expires July 15, 2014. Mike Hoffmann of the Colonial Paras, is NEA director (2016). He ran unopposed for this three-year term position in the spring 2013 election. Former NEA Hofmann Director Mary Jo Faust of Capitol resigned before her term had expired, at which time the Exec. Board elected Hoffmann to begin his term before September 1, 2013. Hoffmann works at Southern Elementary School outside of Delaware City. DSEA President Frederika Jenner remains president. Her first term ends July 15, 2014. Jenner So you like to sing?
