april 2017 / the tasting panel / 95 were able to create a spirit that retains the essence of its base material, agave, and that is bold and flavorful while at the same time being sophisticated and approachable," explains Singh. Currently, Tequila Bribón offers only one expression of its craftsmanship: Tequila Bribón Blanco. Crystal clear with aromas of limón and an almost spicy minerality on the palate, this is an alluring blanco with an extremely approachable mixability. "Cocktail bars and mixology accounts are fast embracing the brand," says Singh. One such cocktail has become a hit with the patrons of Tavern Road in Boston. Tenzin Samdo, Beverage Director of Tavern Road, has created the Cobbler on Congress cocktail. For this unique drink, combined in a Collins glass and topped with crushed ice, Tequila Bribón is added to a mix of cucumber, serrano pepper and citrus as well as a house made hibiscus grenadine. The concoc- tion provides a spicy, aromatic cocktail that is as complex as it is refreshing. In development for over two years, Tequila Bribón was always intended to be a friendly yet thoughtful spirit that would appeal to all types of drinkers. In a complex and ever-growing category, Palm Bay International recognizes that drinkers' tastes and knowledge have evolved over the years. "Our mission was to produce high-quality tequila that would be embraced by newbies and aficionados alike," Singh mentions. The company partnered with Casa Don Roberto, whose family history in the tequila business goes all the way back to 1840. "Palm Bay's history of building wine and spirits brands is very attractive to small, authentic, artfully crafted spirits," explains Singh. This part- nership has made it possible for a new entry like Tequila Bribón to gain traction in its category even in its very early stages of distribution. "Additionally, Palm Bay is a nimble company that is quick to react and respond to changes and opportunities in the market," says Singh. Don Roberto Orendein became known for the quality of his tequilas early in the 20th century. Now three generations have passed, and Tequila Bribón is a remarkable expres- sion of the experience and consistency of Casa Don Roberto. Tequila Bribón's bottle itself is not only easy on the eyes but also ergonomic in a bartender's well. These functional yet beautiful traits were designed with both the backbar and the well in mind. The vessel is also a callback to the antiquity of tequila- making. "The details in design pay homage to the history of the family behind the tequila," explains Singh. "1924 [on the seal] marks the year that Don Roberto Orendain Sr. established La Arenita distillery. Tequila Bribón bridges the gap between Old World and contemporary styles of tequila in every aspect." Paying homage to Casa Don Roberto was a prior- ity in the development of Tequila Bribón, and the brand has the intention of expanding its horizons into more diverse expressions of their juice. "We have plans to launch Tequila Bribón Reposado in early 2018 along with one-liter formats," says Singh. There's also a potential for more mature offerings down the road. Per Singh, "Five to ten years from now, I could see innovations in wood management as well as traditional Añejo and Muy Añejo expressions. The future is looking bright." Tasting Notes Bribón Tequila Blanco indulges the senses, first with its charming aromas of bright, clean, fresh lime-kissed agave, then with another high note of blueberries and wild flowers. The stark purity on the palate is dotted with salted grapefruit peel, vanilla and summer melon. 94 —M.M. PALM BAY INTERNATIONAL
