A Legendary Original with Tequila Bribón by Matt Jackson / photos by Josh Reynolds 94 / the tasting panel / april 2017 TEQUILA REPORT Tenzin Samdo, Beverage Director of Tavern Road in Boston, with his Cobbler on Congress cocktail featuring Tequila Bribón. When history is honored and modern advancements are implemented, something thrilling is usually in the making. From its bottle design to the name of the brand itself, Tequila Bribón (SRP $19.99)—which was developed in partnership with Casa Don Roberto at the distillery La Purisima in Tequila, Mexico—is perhaps the ideal example of such a marriage of styles. "Tequila Bribón was inspired by and named for the legendary Mexican figure depicted on the label," says Dave Singh, Senior Brand Manager of Spirits for importer Palm Bay International and spokesperson for Tequila Bribón. Singh continues, "The 'Bribón' represents a charismatic, courageous adventurer who traveled across Mexico sharing a drink with and lifting the spirits of everyone he met." Tequila Bribón is a nod to people who carry on with this same sense of positivity and fully embrace life. Using the time-tested technique of partial pot-still distillation in conjunc- tion with column distillation as well as fermentation with wild, native yeasts, Tequila Bribón "finds a unique balance between Old World traditions and techniques coupled with modern technology and innovation," adds Singh. All the fully matured, seven- to nine-year-old agave plants are hand harvested, and the water used for distil- lation comes from a private well.
