ing the historical feel of the event. Appropriately, the festivities were held directly across from the historic Calvary Baptist Church, site of the fi rst Anti-Saloon League convention, which launched the legislative agenda for Prohibition. Other libations made and served dur- ing the evening were created by "King Cocktail" Dale De Groff, Todd Thrasher (Eve, P/X), Owen Thomson (Bourbon), Adam Bernbach (Proof), Dan Searing (Room 11), Derek Brown (The Passen- ger) and, of course, Gina Chersevani (PS7). Jeffrey Morgenthaler, long-time advocate for celebrating Repeal Day, came from Portland, Oregon, to emcee the event, reading toasts collected from friends and colleagues from around the world specifi - cally for the occasion. Other cities around the country also cel- ebrated Repeal Day. In San Francisco, the Michael Mina's Clock Bar staff created a Repeal Day menu, complete with cocktails from the early 1900s—including the Ward Eight and the Floradora—and the history behind them. True to speakeasy form, pa- trons who used the password, "23 skidoo," an adage of the era meaning "to scram," were offered a discount on their bill. BarMagic of Las Vegas put together a Repeal Day dinner featuring Woodford Reserve bourbon (made in a distillery that opened in 1812) and Tuaca Italian liqueur (created in 1938), followed by a Plymouth gin (created in 1723) Repeal Day celebra- tion. These festivities also included Prohi- bition-era attire, including fl apper dresses, pearls, fedoras and armbands. Retro-style bar and restaurant Employ- ees Only in New York City held a week- long Repeal Day celebration featuring a Prohibition-era cocktail menu that included classics like the Last Word and the Southside. Employees Only was an early supporter of pre-Prohibition classic cocktails as well as simple ingredients— on their Repeal Day menu they used their own sought-after EO Lime Cordial, EO Absinthe and EO Grenadine, all designed for classic cocktail re-creation. All around the country, bartenders, chefs and cocktail enthusiasts have shown that there might be value to paying attention in history class after all. How will you com- memorate on December 5, 2010? Repeal Day can be family friendly! Here, Dan and Lynne Levinson (left) come down from Aspen, CO to stylishly celebrate Repeal Day with their son Drew, Wirtz Bev- erage Nevada's Beverage Development Specialist, and his fi ancée, Stephanie Hart- lieb, GM at Parasol Lounge at Wynn Encore. The cocktail, named after the state which fi nally ratifi ed the 21st Amendment, consisted of Tres Gen- eraciones Añejo tequila, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, Leopold Bros Three Pins alpine herbal liqueur, fresh lemon, lime, orange & grapefruit, egg, cinnamon tincture and Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate Bitters. Tad Carducci of Tippling Bros rejoices that so many of the Repeal Day revelers have lined up for his Gussied-Up Breadline cocktail, fea- turing Averna Amaro Siciliano, G'vine Florai- son Small Batch Gin, fresh lemon, ginger beer and cranberries.
