VEGaS Paris revisited. In the desert. In the era of the stay-cation, Vegas is a choice destination for the domestic traveler. Crowds may have dwindled over the past year, but THE TASTING PANEL experi- enced a packed house at Paris Las Vegas for the traditional arrival of the 2009 vintage of George Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau on the third Thursday of November. At one minute after midnight on Novem- ber 19, 2009, huge celebrations took place worldwide as crowds gathered to taste the wines from the latest harvest, with 65 million bottles consumed in the following months. The City of Lights re-creation in the desert—complete with Eiffel Tower and French accents galore—was the perfect Stateside setting for the annual fête hon- oring the world's youngest wine. A mere six weeks after the grapes are harvested, Beaujolais Nouveau is ready to drink. Seine city Vive la diff érence! A swimming pool at the base of the Eiff el Tower is a clue that this Paris stands apart. tHE city of LiGHtS iS rEfLEctEd in tHE city tHat nEVEr SLEEPS at Paris Las VeGas by Meridith May / photos by Cathy Twigg-Blumel 36 / the tasting panel / january–february 2010
