Black Meetings & Tourism October/November 2009: www.blackmeetingsandtourism.com 10 S teve Hildebrand will be the keynote speaker at the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Annual Convention and World Language Expo, November 20-22, 2009 in San Diego, CA. Hildebrand was President Obama's deputy campaign manager and credited with raising an unprecedented, record-breaking $750 million dollars for the campaign, primarily through grassroots strate- gies; utilizing small donors and the internet. Hildebrand's address will focus on Organizing for Change: Foreign Languages and the Obama Administration. He will demonstrate how his grassroots strategies combined with technology introduced a relatively unknown candidate to the American people and how that same process can be utilized to build stronger demand and support for language programs in the United States. In addition, he will share how language educators can best develop their policies to blend with the overall policies of the Obama Administration. The ACTFL convention theme this year is Speaking Up For Languages….The Power of Many Voices. More than 6,000 are expected to attend this event, geared toward providing a plat- form of the largest exhibition of teaching materi- als and technology for the language professional. Up and Away – The National Business Aviation Association will hold their 62nd annual convention in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center and Orlando Executive Airport, October 20-22, 2009. Representatives from 82 coun- tries are expected to attend and more than 800 exhibitors will be on hand to meet with attendees. Key topics this year include, Safety and Risk Management, Leadership Development, Maintenance and Technical Issues, Aircraft and Flight Operations. For the first time, attendees will have the opportu- nity to participate in two days of educational sessions geared towards light business airplane owners or those considering adding a plane to enhance services. The Wall Came Tumbling Down – The American Tourism Society will host its 20th annual conference at the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm in Heiligendamm, Germany October 26-28, 2009. Their 20th anniversary coincides with the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Attendees will have an opportuni- ty to explore Heiligendamm, attend workshops, training and educational sessions, and network. In addition, attendees will also have an opportunity to witness the ongoing initiatives in development from ATS' new partnership with the National Tour Association and Tourism Cares. The ATS Tourism College recently hosted 21 students from Mecklenberg-Vorpommern, Germany in New York City. Food, Technology and Fun – Food enthusiasts from around the world will descend on Chicago, IL at McCormick Place to attend the Worldwide Food Expo, October 28-31, 2009. It is recognized as one of the largest food and beverage technology events in North America. This powerhouse event will feature the AMI International Meat, Poultry and Seafood Industry Convention and Expo as well as the International Dairy and Food Association Expo. This year's convention will feature more than 900 exhibitors and over 20,000 attendees. This event boasts decision makers from all levels of the food and beverage industry, numerous keynote speakers, educational sessions, workshops, cooking demonstrations and networking opportunities just to name a few.
