bits & pieces Sklavis Film adds scanning suite A THENS, GREECE — Sklavis Film Lab Co. (www.sklavis- filmlab.gr), here, has installed a refurbished Rascal Digital and Pandora Pogle film scanning suite.The pur- chase was made through Cintel’s sister Website www.usedt- elecine.com, where the studio was able to specify a complete film scanning suite to meet their requirements. Gramercy Posthires Anthony Erice N EW YORK — Gramercy Post (www.gramercypost.com) has hired Anthony Erice, who will serve as both the stu- dio’s director of operations and senior mixer. Erice (pictured) has 21 years of music recording and mix- ing experience, and 15 years in audio post production, having worked at Howard Schwartz Recording and Tonic in New York. Recently,he worked with Josh Brolin (Jonah Hex), Mary- Kate Olsen (Beastly), Keri Russell (Wilde Kingdom), and James Spader (Acura). According to Gramercy Post principal Joe Mendelson, the hiring is part of a push that will also include studio upgrades and a new Website in the months ahead. Gramercy Post has been mixing numerous TV series recently, including Next Food Network Star and 24 Hour Restaurant Battle for Food Network, and Life After for TV1. They also provided audio post production for the Emmy-nominated WWII in HD series for the History Channel. On the commercial side, Mendelson says the studio mixed a series of 5.1 spots for Olay, and completed a branding/logo sound design job for a new division of MTV called MTV Scratch. Telestream acquires Anystream N EVADA CITY, CA — Telestream (www.telestream.net), a provider of digital media tools and workflow solutions, has entered into an agreement to acquire the busi- ness operations of Grab Networks’ Anystream division.The combination will extend Telestream’s position in the software video transcoding market and enhance the com- pany’s ability to provide enterprise-class, file-based and live encoding solutions. Anystream is 10 years old and offers Agility for media companies looking to produce and transcode video to publish on the Web.The company is a provider of automated multi-platform media publishing solutions, which are used by over 600 media companies in 38 countries around the world. “This is a great opportunity for Telestream to accelerate its momentum helping media and entertainment companies unleash the promise of their media assets through next- generation enterprise-class solutions designed for complex multiformat workflows,” says Dan Castles, CEO of Telestream.“Anystream’s customer base will benefit not only from Telestream’s broad end-to-end digital media tools and workflow solutions, but also from its strategic focus on transcoding.This transaction is very synergistic and truly a win-win for customers, employees and partners alike.” The Rascal at its new home within Sklavis. Sklavis opted for Cintel’s Rascal Digital datacine film scanner fitted with 16mm and 35mm film gates, SD and HD video out- puts, and 2K HSDL data outputs.The unit is coupled with a Pan- dora controller and color correction solution, as well with addi- tional Sound Follower and Keycode tracking equipment. Digital intermediate technician Giannis Kouretis says the stu- dio regularly needs to scan a large quantity of new and archive film, predominantly to 2K data.“The Rascal Digital’s speed perfor- mance in 2K at 15fps, as well as realtime HD is very powerful. Our needs included additional primary and secondary color cor- rection as well, and the Pandora system was able to provide this. To complete the film scanning suite,we needed a Keycode track- ing system and additional audio capabilities.” 10 Post • September 2010 www.postmagazine.com Prairie Pictures’ StormStock (www.storm- stock.com) team, based in Arlington, TX, captured HD footage of the BP oil spill disaster. Images from the event include aerial footage of fire and smoke billowing from the BP Deepwater Horizon rig, oil slicks on Gulf waters, contaminated beaches, cleanup efforts and a fly-over with Florida Governor Charlie Crist.
