60 • LMGI COMPASS | Fall 2023 The LMGI invitied LMGA founding members (and JJ Levine) to a brunch at the Omni Hotel in downtown LA. Robin Macdonald/ LMGI recorded their recollections of the LMGA's early days on video as a project of the LMGI 20th Anniversary Committee. L-R: Leslie Thorson, Cassandra Heredia, John Grant, Debbie Page, JJ Levine, Lisa Blok-Linson, Flint Maloney, David McKinney, Nancy Lazarus, Diane Friedman, Pamella D'Pella, Scott Trimble, Beth Tate and Bruce Chudacoff. 2006 Orin's campaign to get us into the TV Academy, the photo shows, the Fam Tour, the mixers, the trade shows, the panels, the start of a newsletter, the philanthropic projects—all these events and seeds of ideas were there at the very beginning, and we were just getting started! Jody Hummer: The founding of the LMGA showed me how to put ideas into motion and I believed in our goals for the Guild, heart and soul. I served on the Board for the first two years of our life. During this time, we learned together, as a group of fiercely independent thinkers, how to work as a team to make something solid from our thoughts, ideas and dreams. JUNE 28 2023 Second Guild President Kayla Thames-Berge: I want to gratefully acknowledge our earliest supporters. Without such a firm foundation, future success would not be possible. Thank you for your visionary support of the LMGA. (from the first draft issue of the LMGA Newsletter, July 2005) Cassandra Heredia: An organization has a legacy. It gets started by people who commit to something when it is just an idea. Beth got people engaged. We got to work with each other in ways that went way beyond the job and my level of respect for my colleagues increased. Beth Tate: The idea has to be right place/right time but at any moment, it can deflate and fizzle out. Keeping it moving those first years was tough. But having photography exhibits like In The Zone and LAST LOOKS bound us together. These shows put us on the map! In upcoming issues of the LMGI Compass, we will continue the story of the Guild's evolution. In Part 2, we cover a stunning decade of debate and decision-making. A new path is charted, and the Guild moves into the future. Photo by Erika Howard
