Fall 2023
JANUARY
TO APRIL
2003
IN THE ZONE Opening Night
Beth Tate: It took us all year to put the show together. The Pacific
Design Center offered the space. We had raised money, hired
a technical advisor for the hanging, and assembled volunteers
and a jury. We created a catalogue that was printed by the City
of Pasadena Film Office. The whole project was conceived as a
museum-quality exhibit.
On Feb. 2, 2003, we held an opening-night reception for In The
Zone: Los Angeles Through the Eyes of Location Scouts. It was
a huge event that showcased work that was framed and hung on
panels in the lobby and on several floors that wound around the
building's dramatic staircase. We had
dioramas and display cases showing our
tools of the trade.
Lori Balton:
Packed with producers, designers,
directors, production managers and
fellow scouts and managers, the night
was a huge success, including a book-
signing by architectural photography
icon Julius Schulman. Schulman joined
visionary director Tony Scott, Academy
Award nominee Jeannine Oppewall and
photographer Kelvin Jones on our panel
of judges.
