NAB 2022 www.postmagazine.com 30 POST MAY/JUNE 2022 FACILIS PREVIEWS UPCOMING SHARED-STORAGE TECHNOLOGY HUDSON, MA — Facilis (www.facilis.com), the provider of high-performance, shared-storage solutions for collaborative media-production networks, was at the 2022 NAB Show in Las Vegas with a number of announcements. The com- pany held a technology preview of WANLink Client, a new remote workfl w feature based on the Facilis Shared File System. Facilis WANLink Client pro- vides a secure, remote link to Facilis storage through the same Facilis Console software used in the facility. WANLink Client can provide secure storage access without latency and the complexity of VPN, and will be available in Q2 at no additional cost. With the WANLink Client, the same volume attributes, access rules and paths are available across the internet through an en- crypted link to the Facilis server in the customer facility. With the push of a button, the administrator can place secure volumes onto the desktops of remote workstations with no interaction from the remote worker. Bandwidth priority settings help remote worksta- tions maintain better throughput when multiple clients are using the same server uplink. "Our customers have been struggling with remote access work for some time, and any innovation in the market has resulted in solutions that are costly and not easily deployed," explains Facilis Technology's CMO, Jim McKenna. "RDP and Cloud have served some workfl ws well, but when our customers want the same experience and access control on the WAN as they have in-facil- ity, they can now use the field- ested stability of our Shared File System and new Smart Access Rules." Facilis presented Version 8.1 at NAB 2022. The Facilis Shared File System is the core of the HUB Shared Storage workfl w environ- ment, and V.8.1 adds a number of new features. Facilis Smart Access Rules is a graphical interface that allows administrators to add custom policies to volume resources to provide or deny access for users or groups. A new 'delete restore' feature allows the administrator to replace files dele ed from users back to their original location, or flush them f om the system. And enhanced file ystem audit capabilities enable auditing on a location to track user access down to the file l vel for any action taken by a logged-in user. In addition, new platform support has been added for MacOS Monterey (Version 12), and M1 ARM Macs with Ethernet and Fibre Channel connectivity. CANON UPDATES 4K/HDR DP-V1830 PRO REFERENCE DISPLAY MELVILLE, NY — Last December, Canon USA (www.usa.canon.com) launched the DP-V1830, an 18.4-inch professional 4K reference display that features improved core components, such as a high-quality display engine, a revamped set of high-resolution algorithms, new panels and a new backlighting system. Combined, these features deliver an increase in image quality over previous Canon displays. At NAB, Canon announced a free fir ware update and a paid upgrade for the DP-V1830. These upgrades provide additional and expand- ed functions that may help realize improved workfl w efficie y for 4K/HDR video checking, including on-set HDR monitoring. The DP-V1830 realizes improved expression of blacks when compared to previous versions, as well as a wider color gamut and angle of view. The free fir ware update and paid upgrade expand the capabilities of such functions as waveform monitor- ing for visual signal confirm tion and chromaticity diagram, while also adding new functions, including multi-screen display functions and input/output signal switch-out. By adding functions that enable easier checking of 4K HDR video, this upgrade may help improve production quality and workfl w efficie y in a wide range of settings, including on-location sets for film and elevision production. The new waveform monitor parade mode allows for checking of YRGB signal levels simultaneously, while a chromaticity diagram displays color information for each pixel. This allows users to visually confirm such in ormation as signal level color balance and whether overall video is within the estimated color gamut. In addition, the fir ware update adds new display functions, including mixed display of SDI/HDMI that allows viewing of video from SDI and HDMI in- put terminals at the same time. The individual image-quality setting is designed for two or four split-screen viewing, while the multi-information view enables viewing of waveform monitor, chromaticity diagram and other information on-screen without overlapping. With this additional functionality, users can do away with dedicated equipment, like signal transformers or separate displays, thus contributing to more compact setups. A paid, switch-out upgrade activates the Multifunc.SDI out terminal located on the rear of the reference display. This makes possible the selection of the desired 4K/60p video input (for up to four total), connected to the display's SDI input terminal, for output from the Multifunc.SDI out terminal. With this capability, users in narrow workspaces can output from the DP-V1830 to measuring instru- ments or other displays without the need for a dedicated switching device.
