NAB 2022 www.postmagazine.com 28 POST MAY/JUNE 2022 SANDISK HIGHLIGHTS STORAGE FOR POST WORKFLOWS SAN JOSE, CA — SanDisk Professional (www.westerndigital.com) showed a number of storage solutions at April's NAB 2022 show in Las Vegas, including the new 7.68TB G-Drive Pro Studio SSD. The profession- al-grade, high-endurance storage solution is designed specifically or post workfl ws and offers transfer speeds up to 2,600MB/s, allowing users to edit multi-stream 8K footage at full frame rate or render VR proj- ects at full resolution. The G-Drive Pro Studio SSD features dual Thunderbolt 3 ports for daisy-chaining up to fi e additional devices, and a stackable, durable aluminum enclosure. Beyond the 2,600MB/s read performance, the G-Drive Pro Studio SSD offers sequential write performance of 1,900MB/s. It is compatible with MacOS 10.12+ (Time Machine Compatible) and Windows 10+ (via reformat). The unit is backed by a fi e-year limited warranty. The company also showcased the SanDisk G-RAID Shuttle 8 at NAB. The Shuttle 8 is a transportable eight-bay hardware RAID solution with Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) and USB-C (10Gbps) interfaces, offering content professionals 48TBs to 160TBs of capacity and high-powered performance for consolidated backup, super-fast access and realtime video editing. The unit supports multi-stream 4K, 8K and VR workfl ws; RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 configu ations; and provides transfer rates up to 1,690MB/s read and 1,490MB/s write in default RAID 5. With dual Thunderbolt 3 ports, users can daisy chain up to fi e additional devices, keeping them connect- ed to multiple drives, 4K displays and more through a single connection. With support for up to 85 watts of USB power delivery through the USB-C port, the drive can charge a compatible MacBook or MacBook Pro without the need for a separate MacBook charger. Along with Ultrastar enter- prise-class hard drives inside for enhanced reliability, the unit comes with a fi e-year limited warranty. ZEISS INTRODUCES FIRST SERVICE FROM CINCRAFT ECOSYSTEM OBERKOCHEN, GERMANY — At NAB 2022 in Las Vegas, Zeiss Cinematography showed CinCraft Mapper (cincraft.zeiss.com/mapper), a new digital service that quickly and easily provides frame-accurate lens distortion and shading data for visual effects workfl ws. The data can be used by com- positors and matchmoving artists to achieve a cinematic results in VFX shots. "Normally, lens grids must be recorded and processed in order to obtain this data — a process that is not only very time-consuming, but also error-prone and limited in scope," explains Jonathan Demuth, junior product manager, digital cinematography, at Zeiss. "With just a few clicks, CinCraft Mapper now provides this data directly on the basis of the metadata — lens type, focus distance, aperture — captured during film p oduction. Lost clip metadata can also be added without difficul . For compositing and matchmoving artists, this means that they can be sure they are not only receiving accurate data without having to rely on the preceding capture and workfl w procedures, but also that the entire VFX process will be simplified and a celerated. The VFX studio also benefits di ectly from the more efficient orkfl w." Zeiss CinCraft Mapper delivers precise, frame-accurate lens data from com- plex shots with multiple and dynamic focusing distances. The accurate data eliminates the need to make assumptions due to incomplete data. "CinCraft Mapper expands on the Zeiss Extended Data (XD) technology that we introduced with the Zeiss Compact Prime CP.3 and have subsequently integrated into each new cine lens family," adds Christophe Casenave, who is responsible for cinematography products at Zeiss. "VFX artists no longer have to rely only on Extended Data generated by lens and camera equipment on set. Now additional and historic lens family shading and distortion data can also be provided by the CinCraft Mapper service. At the same time, the service is also compatible with the existing XD technology." CinCraft Mapper delivers industry standard ST Maps for distortion and Multiply Maps for shading. These can be used directly in compositing and matchmoving software, such as Nuke, Flame and 3DEqualizer. "Mapper is just the beginning for our CinCraft ecosystem," notes Casenave. "We are already looking forward to being able to offer even more services in the future, which will provide a broad range of aspects of lens looks for VFX and other applications."
