www.postmagazine.com 2 POST MAY/JUNE 2022 EDITOR'S NOTE 'm pleased to make an official annou ement with this issue, but admit that it's been in the works for some time. Heath Firestone, who operates Firestone Studios in Colorado, has been a long-time contributor to Post's print publication, as well as to Post TV shoots at the annual NAB show, serving as producer, cinematographer and editor. Heath recently launched CinemaTechnica.com, where he is publishing product reviews, blogs, industry insight, videos and more, and has agreed to share his perspective and content with the Post audience. His fir t contribution can be found on page 36 ("Review"), where he evaluates the Wacom One creative pen display tablet and ExpressKey Remote. I had a chance to catch up with Heath in Las Vegas back in April at the NAB show — the fir t in three years — and he told me all about the new website and what he has planned. In fact, he's already working on a review of Blackmagic Design's new Cloud Store Mini, the company's brand new, fast network storage solution that comes in a compact, rack-mount design. We'll have that for you in the weeks ahead, both in the magazine and on our website. The National Association of Broadcasters show recently returned to Las Vegas for the fir t time since 2019 — the past two conferences were cancelled due to COVID. I wasn't sure what to expect, having heard that a number of manufacturers weren't planning on participating this year, but was pleasantly surprised with the show as a whole, and a reported attendance of more than 52,000 — well above initial projections. I spent two full days on the show floo and if I had to identify a single takeaway from this year's convention, it would be that of the cloud being used to support remote workfl ws. So many manufacturers had cloud solutions, and AWS even had its own booth in the new West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, where it highlighted partners that have built successful solutions for content production and media supply chain delivery & archiving using the AWS platform. We have highlights from the show beginning on page 28. Looking at this issue's cover story, Iain Blair talks with Joe Wiseman, who shares executive producer and showrunner duties with Joe Port, about the CBS hit Ghosts. The show was adapted from the BBC show of the same name and shot its fir t season in Montreal, with much of the post production handled remotely due to the COVID pandemic. Turn to our "Director's Chair" column on page 12 to hear from Wiseman about the show's single-camera shoot, soundtrack and visual effects. Karen Moltenbrey also contributes to the May/June issue with a feature on Pixar's latest film, Turning Red, which was directed by Domee Shi, who created the Oscar-winning ani- mated short Bao. The film as inspired by Shi's own relationship with her mother and looks at how Mei and her friends deal with unexpected changes that come during puberty. The film has an in entional "cute chunky" style that affects both the characters and their envi- ronments. Numerous Pixar creatives weigh in on the challenges of making the studio's 25 th animated feature. You can learn more beginning on page 16. In our "Editing" column on page 14, I speak with editor Carla Roda, who helped complete a new documentary about the hugely popular '80s Latin boy band Menudo. Roda was part of a team of editors on Menudo: Forever Young, but was the only one who contributed to all four episodes. The doc reveals how the band's manager was able to hide all sorts of abuse behind an extravagant façade. Menudo: Forever Young premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and begins streaming on HBO Max June 23rd. I'm also excited to tease what we have coming up in the July/August issue, where I'll share my conversation with Joseph Kosinski, the director of the fir t 2022 summer blockbuster — the long-awaited Top Gun: Maverick. In addition to directing Tom Cruise for the film Kosinski also worked with Lady Gaga on the accompanying music video for "Hold My Hand." He takes time out to discuss both projects exclusively with Post.
