Education Voter Guide 2012 Election 2012: Critical choices You will have lots of choices to make before Election Day November 6. W ill you volunteer in a campaign for a DSEA-rec- ommended candidate? Help out at the polls on November 6? Drive senior citizens to their polling place? How important is the future of public education in this country to your voting decisions? How impor- tant are collective bargaining and workplace issues to your decision? State provides majority of school district funding Thanks to the 2010 census and redistricting, all 62 of Delaware's legislative seats are up for election this year, every House seat and every Senate seat! And these legis- lators are the ones who vote for the state funding that provides 60-80% of your school district's budget, not to mention education policy and bills that affect the quality of your workplace conditions. Who will champion school and state workers? Who will dig a little deeper to really understand the dif- ficult challenges to overcome? Education is a priority issue in this election, following the economy and jobs. Of course, you know that there is a direct relationship between education and the future economic health of our state and nation. And collective bargaining and workplace issues clearly separate many candidates this year, thanks to efforts in states such as Wisconsin, Ohio by unfriendly gov- ernors and legislators to strip state employees of bargaining rights. In addition to voting on November 6, we urge you to volunteer for the candi- dates we support See what help is needed by con- tacting your local's PAL, political action leader, or your local's DSEA UniServ director. Or, if you live in an area without a contested elec- tion, contact Brissia Perez at 302- 366-8440 and she'll put you in con- tact with the DSEA election coordi- nators that need help in your coun- ty. Volunteer for a total of five hours between now and Election Day – yes, we need volunteers Election Day – and we'll give you a new gold DSEA hoodie. Voting is what Delaware's 8th graders are learning about when they study Popular Sovereignty in the U.S. Constitution. It's the provision that says The People Decide. Let's decide. Can we count on you for a few hours? By volunteering just an hour or two to support pro-public education candidates, you help to elect people who will support the education and employment issues you care about. éé é Volunteers with a total of five or more hours will receive DSEA's newest logo item - a DSEA logo hoodie sweatshirt éé é Sign me up!
