DSEA-Retired: the commitment continues Is retirement around the corner for you? - by Rich Phillips, president, DSEA- Retired Another school year is upon us and that means some folks are thinking about retirement. So, are you ready? school year; however, there are a few changes that the Retired Board decided to make for this year. D 1.There will only be two work- shops this year instead of the reg- ular three that we've provided in the past several years. 2.The two workshops will be held at bigger venues and not the DSEA offices. This will allow more folks to attend. 3.The time of the workshops has changed to a 10 a.m. registration time with the workshops starting at 10:30 a.m. The DSEA-Retired Board of Directors decided to make these changes to better serve active mem- bers thinking of retiring. In the past we could only accommodate between 35 and 80 folks at each workshop, depending on our meet- ing location, which meant that many of you were not able to attend. The first of the workshops is com- ing up on Saturday, November 10th. It will be held at the Delaware State Troopers Association Building located at 6349 North DuPont Highway in Cheswold. There is plenty of parking. A registration form is printed here. The deadline to register is Friday, November 2. One of the features of our DSEA- Retired Pre-Retirement Workshops is that the State Pension Office will provide a pension estimate to those in attendance, provided you regis- ter ahead of time so that they can work up your estimate ahead of time. www.dsea.org SEA-Retired is preparing for its Pre-Retirement Workshops for the 2012-2013 Pension estimates will be pre- pared for employees eligible for retirement within three years from the current date. You must provide the length of your annual contract: 9, 10, 11 or 12 months. And you must provide your position (i.e. teacher, cafeteria worker, school secretary, etc.). If you are eligible to retire within the next three years, you are encouraged to request an estimate of your pension from the Office of Pensions. They will be personally handed to you at the workshop. If you are not eligible to retire within the next three years and you just want some information about the State pension system, please attend. However, the State will not prepare a pension estimate for you. The workshops are FREE to all active DSEA members. If you are not a member of DSEA but a guest of a member, there is a $5 charge to offset the cost of materials, the facility and refreshments. The second workshop will be held on Saturday, March 16 at Delaware Technical and Community College, Georgetown. More details will follow in a later edition of DSEA ACTION!
