Radio spots continue on WJBR 99.5FM and WDEL 1150AM New this year: Unsung Hero of the Month Award from WDSD for ESP staff. of the Month recognition program. Spread the word that one can go to www.wjbr.com, click on Contests at the top, then VIP Club Contests. Then click on the Teacher of the Month Contest. You will have to register, but that only takes an email address and creating a pass- word. Anyone can nominate a W favorite teacher or specialist: a parent, student, grandparent, even a colleague. The honored teacher/specialist receives a surprise visit from DSEA and WJBR personalities; a plaque and dinner for two at Café Gellato; plus recognition in this publication and on both the DSEA and Great Schools Facebook pages. Last year 10 Delaware teachers were so honored. This is the second year of this sponsorship, funded by the Great Schools Great Commun- ities public outreach budget line. New – WDSD 94.7FM and DSEA to recog- nize ESP educators In today's schools, everyone contributes to student success I n addition to teachers and spe- cialists, students often turn to other school staff (paras, secre- taries, custodians, food service workers and bus drivers) to provide them with the emotional or instruc- tional lift they need. JBR 99.5FM is continuing its partnership with us as we sponsor their Teacher Great Schools make Great Communities DSEA sponsors the Blue Rocks bookmarks For five years now, the book- marks that Rockie Bluewinkle distributes to students during his school visits (see right) have been produced thanks to DSEA. They talk about Rocky's Reading Challenge: read ten books, note them on the bookmark, and bring the completed bookmark back to your teacher to win two tickets to a pre-determined Blue Rocks game. We're now trying to figure out how we can get Rocky Blue- winkle and Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat together. Congratulations to John Sell, Delaware's Teacher of the Year for 2013 J ohn Sell teaches English at Sussex Tech High School in Georgetown, the first Delaware Teacher of the Year from that vo-tech district. A member of Sussex Tech E.A./DSEA/NEA, he is in his twenty-third year of teaching, having first taught at Caesar Rodney High School. Coincidentally, while there, he taught English to last year's Teacher of the Year, Amber Augustus, who now teaches 5th grade at John Bassett Moore Intermediate School in Smyrna. Congratulations, John! WDSD and DSEA invite you to spread the word about this opportu- nity to go to wdsd.comand fill out a nomination form telling why that special school employee deserves recognition as an all-star educator!
