Lohr Vineyards & Wines as a com- pany is quite substantial. ey currently own more than 1,300 acres of vineyards in the Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands of California's Monterey County, grow- ing Chardonnay, Riesling, Valdiguié and Pinot Noir. ey also maintain more than 2,300 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, And Syrah in Paso Robles, plus 33 choice acres in St. Helena in Napa Valley, and have not one, but two tasting facilities. What's more, the Lohrs have been growing grapes and making wine for over four decade—they are undoubtedly one of the pioneering families of Californian Central Coast winemaking. With influ- ence like that, I'm just grateful they're idealists. J. Lohr is one of the few independent estate-driven, family-owned wineries of its size, and yet somehow, it's run like a small mom and pop win- ery, treating everyone involved like family, and their vineyards like their own home.
