The unit features im- proved circuitry for superior recording at higher volumes, let- ting Apple device users capture pro- quality recordings. Like the original, Mikey 2G ($79) fea- tures two custom- tuned Blue capsules for stereo recording, and three sensitiv- ity settings. This second-gen Mikey also includes a 3.5mm line-input for direct recording of other sound sources such as a guitar, mixer or even an- other iPod to over- dub audio. The updated case design makes Mikey compatible with most protective cases and now fea- tures a 230-degree range of adjustabil- ity for accurate po- sitioning on a desk or to capture clear audio. The Quadro 4000 graphics processing unit (GPU) for Mac is optimized to accelerate workflows and drive a range of pro apps. CoreMelt's image stabilization and rolling shutter reduction software app, Lock & Load X ($149), is now in Version 1.3 and works with software such as Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Motion. It’s designed for projects that are shot with DSLR and CMOS sensor-based cameras, providing a tool to stabilize footage featuring rolling shutter artifacts. CoreMelt works up to 12 times faster than Apple Final Cut’s built-in stabilizer, and al- lows users to work on the rest of a project while tracking. FilmLight upgrades Baselight grading system L ONDON — FilmLight (www.filmlight.ltd.uk) has released a new version of its Baselight color grading system. Baselight 4.2 is now available for the entire range of Baselight sys- tems and extends the product’s toolset with features such as the curve-based Video Grade, for fast and precise finessing; fluid variable feathering on shapes; and the quick shapes li- brary, which helps simplify shape generation. The simple to use DSpot tool helps repair image defects, while a comprehensive system of timeline marks and annotation can be used to follow the progress. The solution, built on Sorenson’s Squeeze Server, uses Aspera’s trans- port technology to provide fast transfer speed for large files. The RightScale Cloud Management Platform allows users to automate server cloud use based on cus- tomized require- ments associated with usage. By applying dedi- cated server in- stances, the Squeeze Server maximizes video processing power and eliminates the potential for clog- ging of data pipelines.
