Mistika V.5 now available M ADRID — At IBC, SGO (www.sgo.es) showed its Mistika color grader, which performs at up to 4K in realtime. The company feels that the system is future proofed, as it offers 3D tools in addition to powerful 2D performance. The system also offers 2D compositing and finishing tools, making it suitable for both commercial and feature work. The company also displayed Mistika Version 5 (pictured), Mistika Live and LightSpace CMS.Version 5 brings with it a new intuitive interface for maximum user acceptability, as well as a new set of stereo- scopic 3D and 2D tools. The new release increases speed, which includes the 4K realtime color grading capabilities.Additional new features include realtime geometry matching; realtime color matching; inter- active and animated parallax modifications (convergence); inter-ocular distance interpolation;multiple stereo 3D visualization modes; realtime floating windows; realtime z-depth shot transitions (hand-offs); the ability to deliver any stereo 3D format; and dual stereo 3D ingest (progressive and interlaced). Mistika’s DI toolset is compatible with more than 200 native image formats, enabling post produc- tion work to start without any conversion delays, space duplication issues or processing time. Mistika also boasts de-grain and noise reduction tools. The system’s open architecture and open storage ap- proach enables any third-party systems to have direct access to the system’s storage and files. Mistika Live is a new stereoscopic 3D production tool. Mistika is now fully supported by Light Illusion’s LightSpace Colour Management System. Light- Space CMS ensures consistent and accurate color calibration at every stage of the production and post chain. It generates 3D LUTs that ensure all color rendition is as accurate as possible on any type of display for any type of deliverable. The new system is capable of scanning 2K at up to 25fps. It will be used for 16mm and 35mm film ingest for both dailies and final scans. Scanity has few moving parts — only the film rollers touch the film. Optical pin registration ensures an image stability that is comparable with mechanical sys- tems yet allows for faster scanning speeds and safe film handling. Stopp took delivery of the Scanity in July and installation was completed in August. Pasi Johansson, chief executive officer/partner of Stopp, says the studio will make use of the system’s fast 1K scanning capabilities. Stopp adds Scanity film scanner from DFT S TOCKHOLM — Stockholm Postproduction (Stopp) has upgraded its front-end lab with a new Scanity high-speed film scanner from Germany- based DFT Digital Film Technology. Stopp (www.stopp.se) offers an end-to-end workflow that includes CGI, sound design, film scan- ning and digital post for commercials and longform Assimilate shows beta Scratch update S ANTA CLARA, CA — Assimilate (www.assimilateinc.com) showed a beta version of its 5.2 release for its Scratch digital finishing solution at IBC.The version will be avail- able before the end of the year and introduces users to Post 2.0, the next-generation of digital post tools designed to achieve a high level of quality in digital cinema imagery. Scratch V.5.2 will include a robust core feature-set with realtime data management, re- view/playback, conform/editorial, color grading, compositing, finishing and final mastering tools. At the show, Assimilate showed Scratch in data workflows, 3D production work- flows and working with the latest digital cinema formats, including R3D and ArriRaw. In addition to offering tools for color grading, finishing and compositing, Scratch has 3D-specific tools for dealing with convergence, scaling and versioning. The company has partnered with 3ality, the maker of stereo monitoring systems, and Telairity, the developer of a 3D remote-review network, to create a simultaneous, realtime review solution that can be used by post houses worldwide. www.postmagazine.com September 2010 • Post 39
