THE ARTISAN SUMMER 2023 • 51 B Y S A B I N E R O L L E R T A Y L O R M A K E - U P A R T I S T — MAKE-UP — Continued on page 58 PHOTOS BY ERIN SIMKIN/HULU As for her make-up look, Judy has a preference for clean beauty products, vegan and cruelty-free if possible, so I used Westman Atelier Foundation, cheek color and contour. For eye make-up, I used vegan Tarte sugar rush lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara (so amazing on her lashes, no falsies needed!), hourglass mechanical gel eyeliner and urban-decay eye pencils, eyeshadows by Tarte and by Terry. Lip color mostly Lipchic by Chantecaille. In our skin care regimen, we used Skyn ICELAND eye gels, Dr. Hauschka lip balm and rose cream for mid-day touchup and as needed. Also, Murad refreshing toner and La Roche Posay Hydraphase Intense Hyaluronic Acid eye cream. In the first episode, there were a variety of flashbacks to the old sitcom days, and we went for extra youthful looks, as well as a wedding look. On top of that, we created an alien look that was meant to be a bit cheesy and over the top. The creator of Reboot, Steven Levitan (Modern Family), had a lot of ideas for this and we pulled it together on a budget with prosthetic pieces assembled with help from Koji Ohmura and applied by Heather Galipo, yet another wig and a fabulous costume. For the flashbacks, we also gave Keegan-Michael Key a wig and sideburns to blend into his beard that we colored in to hide gray hair and colored Johnny Knoxville's hair temporarily. On Rachel Bloom whom we previously worked with on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, I used Christian Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation, Milk Makeup Cheek Color Cream in Werk, hourglass Ambient flush powder blush, Ilia lip colors, it cosmetics Superhero mascara, Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner and eyeshadow. Her character "Hannah" was more natural than glamorous Barbie "Bree" (Judy Greer). Paul Reiser mainly needed his goatee maintained for the shoot and a light corrective foundation with Tom Ford cream sticks. With me was Hedvig Lee as key make-up taking care of Johnny Knoxville, Calum Worthy and Krista Marie Yu, as well as other guest cast members. Darla Albright, Cynthia Hernandez and Laura Leppanen, were the main additions to the team. It was a fun but fast- paced shoot and strict COVID protocols as in masks on for the actors in between every take kept us quite busy with touchups. •
