Unlike the real Tham Luang, I decided to position the mouth of the cave directly at the top of a slightly curving and narrowing staircase, to give the impression of this powerful being, the cave itself, overlooking the site. By positioning the cave entrance in this way, the divers would emerge from their dark and treacherous journey, descending the stairs into the colorful chaos of the base camp below; likewise, upon entering, they would rise from this chaos to the eerie quiet of the looming cave system ahead of them. In a scene where, minutes after the divers discover the boys and they ask that the news be kept quiet, it is revealed that by the time they emerge from the cave at the top of the stairs, they look out onto the frenetic camp site and watch the news of their discovery traveling across it.
