The sound stage had been dressed as an art gallery, not for a student production, but for the public opening reception of this year's Production Design Showcase, an exhibition of the twelve graduating designers' work while at AFI. Two years ago, the twelve had assembled on this same sound stage from all over the globe. They had diverse backgrounds such as architecture, interiors, theater, industrial design, advertising and studio art, but they all shared a passion for visual storytelling and a dream to become professional Production Designers. Since then, each successfully completed the AFI Conservatory's renown curriculum of "hands-on" production-based filmmaking. In their first year, they designed a minimum of three original cycle film exercises, acted as Art Director on another three shorts and served as crew on a variety of 2022 SHOWCASE GRAPHIC BY GRADUATING FELLOW PATRICIA WITT.
