extensive modifications and leveling, prompting adjustments right up until the last minute, but eventually, we all learned to pivot like those slabs and think outside the box. Despite the rolling power outages that came during the last week of prep (which forced the final dressing and dust-aging to be done with just a few portable work lights), I'm grateful for the adventure and the amazing, talented team crazy enough to come share it. We ended up building several swing sets through the eight episodes, but it was on location where we went big once the permanent sets were done. The Halloween episode mid-season required decorating three separate trick-or-treat neighborhoods, a teen house party, a haunted house and the series' "villain" (and head of the Bubblegum girls' clique) Cari's Bedroom. Then there was the coupon episode in a grocery store, and the finale with a beauty pageant in a shopping mall food court. Bring on the Orange Julius, Sbarro Pizza, and hundreds of products to fill grocery aisles. There were no "bottle" episodes on this one, but that's what made each week so exciting and why I think audiences have fallen in love with the show all summer. The scripts were funny and smart. The actors delightful. The sets beautiful. And on the weekends…we got those sandy beaches, piña coladas and warm Puerto Rican smiles. What more could you want?
