was more time to hone the story and continue
writing. Jordan was adamant that I stay on
throughout this push, a decision which—from a
production standpoint—turned out to be brilliant.
The prep time Jordan demanded was crucial
to the design and execution of the film. I was
able to go deep into research: the origins of the
Black cowboy in the American West, the world
of training animals for motion pictures, western
ghost towns/theme parks, '90s TV sets and so
on. It allowed us to thoroughly work through every
single detail. And detail is what Jordan thrives
on. There is nuance to every single frame, and
great consideration goes into every prop, graphic,
vehicle, horse, saddle, etc.
