They participated in robust narrative analysis sessions of their own work, listened attentively to prominent guest speakers, participated in late-night discussions of the best in American and international films. They attended support classes in set construction, scenic painting and traditional Art Department skills such as sketching, drafting and model making. Classes in SketchUp, Vectorworks and Rhino helped prepare them for the virtual Art Department of the future. In the second year, each of the Production Design Fellows applied what they learned and collaborated with other disciplines to produce at least one original thesis short film, festival-ready. At the reception, the atmosphere was festive as film clips from the many productions played around the gallery. The hard work of the graduating Fellows was celebrated by faculty, proud parents and graduates of the design program currently working in the film industry, many as members of the ADG. On the following pages, we are pleased to present select images created by the Production Designers of the AFI Class of 2022. They are truly one step closer to the dream. A.
