17. ADJUSTMENT BUREAU: JULY 30. MATT DAMON Talk about a high-concept film. We often throw around phrases like "it's destiny" and "it was meant to be," but what if there was a bureau that arranged those destinies? And what would happen if somehow you disrupted that destiny? That is the tagline for this film. Damon's character, David Norris, had it all and was on the path for success. But there was a major glitch. He took a turn that was never intended for him to take, and now the Adjustment Bureau is after him to make things right. This fim is like if Minortiy Report and The Truman Show met and had a love-child. 18. THE OTHER GUYS: AUGUST 6. WILL FERRELL AND MARK WAHLBERG This buddy-cop film follows the formula but gives us a couple of curveballs here and there. First, Wahlberg is still his bad-ass self but he's an erattic bad-ass, not cool and composed as usual. Second, Ferrell is in true form, but we've never really seen him as a gun-carrying, eye-glass wearing, behind-the-desk cop. At this point in time in the summer, there will have been a lull in terms of new comedies and "Other Guys" will rule the genre because of that void. 19. SCOTT PILGRIM vs. THE WORLD: AUGUST 13. MICHAEL CERA When you find that perfect mate and all is going well, you begin to settle down, and it is at that point where you start to discuss baggage. Most baggage comes in the form of past relationships. Past relationships can absolutely kill a present relationship either because you find out that all the past mates were losers and so there must be something wrong with your loved one, or those past relationships were fun, steamy, hot and wild, which means that if you make one minor misstep, your loved one is going back to old watering grounds. But what if you had to fight your past relationships in order to enjoy your present relationship? Enter Scott Pilgrim, who encounters just that problem. For most of us, we don't have to fight our exes, a simple deleting of a number or malatov cocktail does the trick, but for Pilgrim the task plays out more like fighting bosses in a video game. 20. PIRANHA 3D: AUGUST 27. ELISABETH SHUE, ADAM SCOTT, JERRY O'CONNELL At this point summer is coming to an end. In all likelihood you did absolutely nothing meaningful. And as you enter into deep depression at the thought of fall being just around the corner, Hollywood hands us a parting gift—Piranha 3-D. Brainless, aggressive, yet adorable-looking killing machines. Imagine rowing a boat on a glassy lake, with pristine landscape surrounding you. As the warm sun beats upon your back, you decide to cool off by puttin your feet in the water. After the initial chill, you take a deep breath and decide to continue rowing. You pull your feet out only to find out that what once were your beautful feet are now two white nubs. With the emergence of 3-D films, Piranha will bring this horrific imagery as close to us as possible. 26 LIVEMAGS.NET JUNE>>10
