Summer, 2018 | wyoea.org Have you ever felt overwhelmed by debt? Many people have, especially those who have taken out student loans. NEA recognizes this as a problem for our members and has developed a program called "Degrees Not Debt." It teaches about programs designed around people who teach in low income schools and anyone who works in the public service sector that can help educators to reduce or even eliminate student loan debt. And many of our members aren't aware of them! In October I was invited to an event in Indianapolis to learn more about this program and to learn how to present it to members. I found it both useful and informative. Some members said that by enrolling in one or more of the programs, they would save thousands of dollars and significantly lower their monthly payments. Recently WEA had a "train the trainers" event where all of WEA's UniServ Directors learned about the program and then presented it to Albany County EA members in Laramie. NEA even gave us access to a new texting tool called "Hustle" so we could reach out to members in a more personal way. Your UniServ Director has the information and materials to share with you and give you some ideas that could save you money. Does every loan qualify for every program? No, but why not come and find out if they apply to you? If you want to learn more, contact your UniServ Director today.
