The Wyoming legislature's Management Council met in April to identify topics that will be studied in the interim between the 2018 and 2019 legislative sessions. Topics are identified, assigned to committees, and ranked in order of priority. Below are the topics WEA is watching and will be reporting on through Legislative Updates during the interim: Joint Education Interim Committee (JEIC): Priority #1 – School Finance Priority #2 – School Safety and Security Priority #3 – Wyoming Accountability in Education Act (WAEA) Priority #4 – K-12 Educational Program (Basket of Goods) Priority #5 – Community Colleges Priority #6 – Virtual Education For a detailed description of each of these, visit the JEIC's interim topics page: http://www.wyoleg.gov/ Committees/2018/J04. Joint Revenue Interim Committee (JRIC): Priority #1 – State Fiscal Structure and Economic Diversification The JRIC will also be reviewing many taxes currently in place, including tourism tax, cigarette taxes, and minerals taxes. Joint Appropriations Committee (JAC): Priority #1 – Revenue Streams and Simplification of the Budgeting Process Priority #3 – Wyoming Retirement System and the State Treasurer's Office Priority #5 – Receive reports and take legislative action on a number of topics, including K-12 funding.
