The remake is based on the stylish, critically acclaimed 1972 blaxploitation crime drama of the same name but takes place in present day. Produced by Joel Silver, this version is directed by the acclaimed Director X, known for his unique stylistic vision on music videos. Starring Trevor Jackson as Youngblood Priest, Mudbound and Straight Outta Compton star Jason Mitchell, and Michael Kenneth Williams of The Wire. An CD Antoinette Messam on set with Trevor Jackson incredibly fast schedule had Messam prepping LA, shopping with Oppenheimer in Toronto over the Christmas holidays, and an intense shopping spree in New York before hitting the ground running January 1, 2018. One of their biggest challenges was dressing half of the cast in head-to-toe white with multiples in the dead of winter. The other difficulty was keeping the cast warm during one of the coldest winters in Atlanta history. In addition, the entire costume department waited with bated breath every day for the shipping guy to arrive. Messam says the amount of online shopping she did for this film totals what she has done for all her films in the last decade. "It was the only way to get the volume and numbers we needed in multiples for camera. There were many sleepless nights worrying, are we going to get it in time!" After a very successful collaboration with director Damien Chazelle on La La Land, CD Mary Zophres is thrilled to be designing Chazelle's next feature, The First Man. Starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong, it is the story of becoming the first man on the moon and all of the joy and sacrifices that entailed. Claire Foy is playing Janet Armstrong with a huge ensemble of talent, including Kyle Chandler and Jason Clarke rounding out the cast. Zophres says, "The shoot was busy but very inspiring, filming a few days at Cape Canaveral in some of the same locations that the Apollo 11 mission used and at Edwards Air Force Base on the same dry lake bed that Neil Armstrong made his emergency landing in 1962. It gave the crew and actors goosebumps to have such a tangible experience."
