62 { THE SOMM JOURNAL } AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2016 { bordeaux } EVERY OTHER YEAR, WINEBOOK—A SPECIALIZED DIVISION OF Maisons Marques & Domaines that works closely with some of the best châ- teaux in Bordeaux—whisks a special selection of wines from both the Left and Right Banks to the United States for a three-city tour. This spring, the Tour des Deux Rives stopped in Beverly Hills at The Paley Center for Media. The celebrity caricatures hung on the walls of the bright interior of the modern building watched enviously as Southern California–based somms and wine buy - ers mingled and sipped some of the highest quality wines Bordeaux has to offer. There were just six tables at this très exclusif event, each with its own line-up of varying vintages and second labels. The first of which presented by Pascale Blickman, who poured the 2004 and 2012 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, along with the 2011 Croix de Beaucaillou. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, owned by the Borie family for over 60 years, is a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé and garners its name from the gravelly "beautiful stones" peppering the property. Located in Saint-Julien, it is one of the only châteaux in Bordeaux to be built over its cellars. Also being poured was the 2012 Château Lalande-Borie, named after its Lalande terroir and, of course, the Borie family. Across the room, Véronique Sanders, President of Château Haut-Bailly, was pouring the 2007 and 2012 Château Haut-Bailly, along with the 2010 La Parde de Haut-Bailly. Owned by banker Robert G. Wilmers, Château Haut-Bailly con - sists of 74 acres in the center of Graves and is classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves.
