While the rest of the nation is barbecuing on docks and decks and frolicking in the sun, most wine professionals are in cold cellars, shivering through inventory, cracking the books to brush up on practical knowledge, agoniz - ing over the perfect pairings for Chef 's newest tasting menu and hauling cases of wine from point A to point B. The good news is that you have just opened one action packed issue of The Somm Journal. Full of stories to vicariously transport you to the South of France to explore the wines of Jean-Luc Colombo in Cornas (page 56), to Alexander Valley for a recap of our latest SOMM Camp (page 72), to Spain to virtually taste some of the wonderful Albariños of Rías Baixas (page 110) or to Japan to get an idea of the top whiskies from the Land of the Rising Sun (page 85). And don't miss the results section for the 2016 San Francisco International Wine Competition, where we list the Double Gold and Gold medalists, starting on page 124. Just remember, when everyone else goes back to their desk jobs, we get to celebrate wine for a living. Karen Moneymaker Senior Editor Senior Editor Karen Moneymaker at a recent Loire Valley tasting.
